A Spooky Throwback: The Gruesome Beauty of Deer in Velvet
Today’s throwback is a favorite of mine. As a fan of all things Halloween, spooky, and horror-related, I wanted to incorporate a unique and eerie element into my design: the fascinating yet gruesome process of deer going into ‘velvet’ with their antlers. This natural phenomenon can look pretty gnarly during the different stages, making it perfect for those who appreciate the macabre and the strange.
The Intriguing Process of Velvet Antlers
For those unfamiliar, deer antlers are covered in a soft, furry skin known as 'velvet' while they are growing. This velvet is rich in blood vessels and nutrients, helping the antlers to grow rapidly. As the antlers mature, the velvet dries up and peels away, often leaving behind a bloody and raw appearance that can be quite unsettling. This transformation is both fascinating and eerie, capturing the essence of nature's raw beauty and brutality.
Bringing the Horror to Life
In creating this design, I drew inspiration from the different stages of the velvet process, emphasizing the gruesome and raw aspects. The result is a chilling piece that captures the unsettling beauty of deer in velvet. The imagery is perfect for those who love horror and the grotesque, making it an ideal addition to any spooky or Halloween-themed collection.
The Intersection of Nature and Horror
As an artist, I strive to find the intersection between nature and horror, blending the two in a way that tells a story and evokes emotion. The deer in velvet symbolizes the duality of life and death, beauty and grotesque, making it a compelling subject for storytelling and art. For those who enjoy cryptids, gaming, and the dark side of nature, this piece offers a unique perspective on a natural process that is often overlooked.
This one’s a pretty gruesome design and I love how it turned out.
